Waste Management

The solid wastes generated at the campus are collected using waste bins placed at different points on the campus and in the class rooms, and by engaging support staff and are sent for appropriate processing. Canteen and left-over of student meals which are the chief sources of food wastes are sent to the pig farm in the campus. Bio-wastes other than food wastes are sent to the Vermicomposting plant for composting. Carcasses and other biological wastes are disposed in the dumping pit. Broken glasses, dead bulbs and tubes, and solid chemical wastes are also disposed. Plastic and Paper wastes are sold to waste collectors for re-cycling and re-use. Dry wastes and sanitary napkins are disposed safely by incineration. Liquid wastes are not treated before disposal. The untreated wastes are drained off into concealed soak pits. Toilet wastes are discharged into well protected underground septic tanks. Electrical and Electronic devices that are beyond redemption are sold to agencies involved in the recycling of such wastes. Broken glass, dead bulbs and tubes are buried deep under soil at places away from water sources. Hazardous waste is minimal on campus and is channeled into soak pits.
