Facilities for differently abled

Mar Ivanios College pays special attention to the welfare of differently abled students The UGC had started the various scheme of assistance to facilitate Higher Education for Persons with special needs and keeping in view of the importance of this the college provides special education programmes as well as infrastructure to differently-abled persons. The infrastructure developed enables them to easily access classrooms, laboratories, toilets, etc. We have tried our level best to fulfill the objectives choked out by the UGC to provide equal educational opportunities to the disabled persons in higher education, to equip our institutions with the facilities to provide access to disabled persons and to create appropriate facilities for persons with special needs in higher education. The College has a Grievance/Welfare Cell for Persons with Disabilities as per the policy directive of the Government to ensure all necessary services to them. The admission norms clearly earmark the intake quota of PWD category and the management pays keen attention to admit those students in their allotted seats annually. The College, irrespective of the kind, category and degree of disability, provides quality inclusive education to the students which include special training in developing their skill. Mar Ivanios College in collaboration with ‘Insight’ (A centre which provides training for differently abled students with the help of IT Mission and Department of Social Welfare Government of Kerala, started in 2010.) has introduced IT based skill development programme for students under PWD category. A computer lab with 10 systems is equipped with special software and these students can practice with their own convenient time with the help of lab assistant. The facilities provided by the College for PWD students include wheel chairs, ramp, accessible special toilets, tarred/concrete road network to all blocks, IT based skill development programme, counseling and orientation programmes, nursing assistance, screen reader like JAWS (Job Access With Speech) facility for visually impaired for academic and exam purposes, scribes for writing the examination, etc.
